Metron-DVM
Veterinary Imaging Software
Metron-DVM is an easy-to-use PC software product for veterinarians.
Metron-DVM allows you to store all kinds of images organized by
Owner, Animal, and Date taken. Images may be photos, radiographs,
MRIs, thermographs, ultrasounds, endoscope images, etc.
A strong point of Metron-DVM, not found in other image archiving
systems, is an emphasis on being able to make accurate measurements
within the image, and the ability to quickly and easily put together
multi-page formatted reports that can be given to your clients,
or to another veterinarian.
For equine veterinarians, we have specialized analysis of the hoof,
but Metron also is used by small animal vets.
What is in Metron-DVM that is not in Metron-Pro?
Metron-DVM includes all the features in basic Metron as well as
those features found in Metron-Pro.
In addition, Metron-DVM contains:
1) Support for DICOM
DICOM is an image representation standard which arose in the human
medical field and has been making it's way into veterinary practice
over the past few years. Metron-DVM provides the ability to read
and write DICOM files, as well as burn DICOM-compliant CDs. Additionally,
there is a communication side to DICOM, and so Metron-DVM features
"DICOM Send" so that it can send any image in Metron to
another DICOM device. Metron-DVM is also able to work with a third-party
software package, 'Personal Server'
from DesAcc, so that Metron can receive DICOM communcations
from other sources.
All devices which are DICOM compliant are required to have a "DICOM
Conformance Statement" and ours is available here.
2) Direct Interface to eFilm
Beginning with version 4.32, Metron-DVM supports a direct interface
to eFilm (a popular DICOM viewer). This allows you to browse your
eFilm database from within Metron, and to easily pull over any images
you wish to bring into Metron! We think the Metron browser for eFilm
is superior to the browser that is built into eFilm itself: just
click on any study to see thumbnails of all the images in that study,
then with one click, see all the thumnails for another study - can't
do that in eFilm. The images come accross into Metron as DICOM images
with all tags and full integrity. More details
here.
3) Support for various Image Sources
With Metron-DVM, you can add our 'DR-Option'
to turn Metron into a complete Digital Radiography (DR) system.
Metron-DVM also supports the acquisition, storage, and later browsing
of images from various sources such as DR, Ultrasound, any Twain-compliant
device, Thermography cameras, and Video Capture.
Some of these interfaces are specific to hardware imaging devices
sold in a bundle with Metron-DVM by Vetel
Diagnostics. You may wish to contact Vetel to discuss their
line of imaging equipment.
4) Ability to burn a CD with images and such that the CD also
contains the "Metron Viewer" so the recipient of the CD
can view (and filter and manipulate) the images.
This is the most convenient way to send out a set of images to
a colleague or client. The resulting CD will allow the recipient
to view and manipulate the images. The CD plays directly from the
CD-player without the need to install any software on the recipient's
CD. The CD is also DICOM compliant and so can be viewed in any DICOM
viewer program.
5) Support for 16-bit-per-pixel image files and their manipulation.
Most digital images coming from digital cameras and other common
sources use 8-bits to represent each color component of each pixel.
However, images coming from modern Digital Radiography (DR) and
Computed Radiography (CR) systems often require support for 12-
or 14-bits per pixel. Metron-DVM allows you to view, filter, and
manipulate images with up to 16-bits per color component without
losing any information in the image.
