The MEGA Image
Filter
The MEGA filter, introduced in Metron version 3 has
been improved in Metron version 4.0.
Controlling the MEGA filter is done with four parameters,
called "contrast", "edge", "lat red",
and "smooth". The "contrast" setting controls
the amount of contrast enhancement provided by the filter; the "edge"
setting controls the extent to which edges are sharpened, the "lat
red" setting, which stands for "latitude reduction"
is somewhat subtle, but attempts to 'flatten' gross features of
the image so that there is more dynamic range left over for the
finer features, helping the eye to see them; and the "smooth"
setting helps to reduce noise (appearing as 'graininess') in the
image. So it is possible to change these settings and get very different
outputs from the filter. In the example below, a difficult-to-image
equine stifle radiograph is improved by using MEGA. This is just
one illustration, and the filter can be used many ways.

MEGA helps get all the information out of excellent
images (e.g. those from Digital Radiography machines) and also helps
recover poorly exposed images from conventional film radiography.
The bottom line is that Metron contains world-class
filtering technology, and you won't have to put your images thru
PhotoShop, or any other software, prior to using them in Metron.
Metron can take you from raw images to finished reports to show
your colleagues and clients.
All the new features in Metron 4.0 are described here.
