How can I tell if there is a newer version of Metron-U available?
You can check which version of Metron-U you currently have by starting
up the program, and clicking on the "About" item in the
top bar. This will bring up a panel giving some general information,
including the "Version #" for your copy of Metron-U. Next,
you can go to our Download
page and on that page you will see the currently available version
number. If the current version is higher than your version, then
you might want to upgrade to get the latest improvements. If you
version is 1.X then you may upgrade to the current Metron-U version
2.X for $99 using our Order
Form. If you wish to just upgrade to the last series 1.X version
for free, you may download it here.
If you want to read about the changes (to see if they are worth
getting) we keep a list of all the changes here.
Can I upgrade to the latest version of Metron-U for Free?
As long as the first (main) version number is the same as the version
that you have, you can upgrade for free. For example, if you have
version 1.03 and you see that now version 1.19 is available, you can
upgrade for free. However, if you have version 1.X and you wish to
upgrade to version 2.X, there will be a small upgrade fee ( $99 ).
How Do I Upgrade to get the latest version of Metron?
Follow these steps. Note that there is no need to "un-install"
your older version of Metron-U. Doing so will only cause you to need
to get a new unlock code from us. If you follow these directions,
you won't need a new unlock code - you will automatically be ready
to use the new Metron-U. (Unless you go from version 1.X to version
2.X for which there is a $99 upgrade fee).
- Download Metron-U from the website ( from our Download
page ) This will result in a file called EponaU2.exe on your
system ( note: if you still have an EponaU2.exe file from a previous
download, you might want to delete it first, to avoid confusion).
- Once you have EponaU2.exe, when you double-click it, it starts
the installation process. When it asks where to
install Metron-U, you should put it in the same
place where you installed last time. By default, it suggests C:\EponaU
-- so if you used the default last time, just use it again. This
way, the new Metron-U will overwrite the old Metron-U,
which is fine.
- This "overwriting" will not delete any
files you have added to the system. For example, if you have imported
images and marked them up, etc. they will still be there after
the upgrade.
When its finished with the install, start up Metron-U, and go to the
"About" panel. It should now indicate that you have the
newer (higher) version number.
Can I upgrade to a newer version if I haven't purchased and
am still in Trial Mode?
Yes. Whether you've purchased or not, you can upgrade. Upgrading will
never change your Trial Mode or Purchased status (except if you are
upgrading to a new 'major' release for which there has been a price
increase -- e.g. if you have version 1.X and you upgrade to 2.X you
will find yourself back in trial mode).
Can I keep my older version of Metron-U and
also install the newer version?
You could, but its not recommended. The main problem is that all
of the work you've entered into Metron-U will be accessible only
when using the older version which created it, and the new version
will not be able to get at those files. That's why we suggest just
overwriting the old version of Metron-U -- then the new version
sits in the right place so it can grab all your existing files.
If, for some reason, you really want to have two versions of Metron-u
on your PC, send a request to support@eponatech.com
and we'll tell you how to copy your files from the former location
to the new location so you can access them from both versions of
Metron-U. However, in any case, if you enter files into your newer
version, you will not be able to view them in your older version.
Things can quickly get confusing, and that's why we don't recommend
having more than one version of Metron on your computer.
I don't want to use a Credit Card to purchase
Metron. Can I pay by check?

How does "Free Mark-Up" work? I'm having trouble
Moving and Deleting Items...
Here are the basics: Except for "Measure Curve Length"
and "Measure Area", the other items work in the following
way: For example, if you click on "Angle Measure", you'll
see a prompt telling you to pick 3 points in the image, and a little
diagram showing how those 3 points relate to the angle you will
measure. As soon as you've picked 3 points on the image, the angle-measure
will appear. Once the item is added to the image, you move it by
pick-hold-down-and-drag with the mouse -- the trick is that you
move these objects by their "control points" which are
usually the endpoints. For the Angle-Measurer there are 3 control
points -- you have to drag each one separately. One exception to
this is the Circle-Radius-Measurer -- it can be dragged also by
its center point. Note that each item you add is auto-assigned a
name, but you can edit its name, as well as details of color, font,
etc by using the selections in the center of the panel. If you're
not sure which item you are editing, just pick a control point of
the item you wish to edit -- this will select it as the "current
note" and then you can edit its details.
The "Measure Curve Length" and "Measure Area"
tools operate a little differently since they can be composed of
any number of points: when you first create them, you'll see some
extra buttons appear on the panel which allow you to switch between
"Add Points", "Delete Points", or "Move
Single Point". You'll see the shape of the cursor change when
in Add or Delete mode, to remind you that you are in that mode.
There is also a button (labeled "Other End") which reverses
the sense of the curve you are picking so you can add points to
the other end of the curve. If you are adding to or deleting from
one of these objects, and you want to get back to picking and editing
another object, switch the selector back to "Move Single Point"
and then you can pick anything on the screen.
There is also a concept of the "current object under edit"
-- whichever object you last pick has this status, and any text
associated with it is displayed in the text window within the Free
Mark-Up panel. Then, the current object can be deleted by clicking
the button in the lower left-hand corner of the panel. So, to delete
any object, just pick one of its control points (to make it the
"current object") and then hit the delete button.
I already bought Metron-U -- How do I 'Unlock' it to get
out of Trial Mode?
See our document on 'How
to Register Metron-U'
I am installing Metron-U on a new computer. How do I move
all of my images and data from the old copy of Metron-U to the new
copy on the new computer?
1) First load Metron-U on the new computer either from a CD or
by downloading it from the EponaTech web-site.
2) Start the new copy of Metron-U up once. It will initialize itself
and will be in "Trial Mode" to begin with.
3) You can transfer all your data now (with instructions below)
and then get an unlock code for the new copy of Metron-U. If you
unlock first, the act of transferring the data will cause the system
to revert to "trial mode".
4) Here is the quick summary of what you need to do (and then more
details below if you need extra help getting this done). It is simply
this:
You need to REPLACE all the folders located in
C:/EponaU on the NEW computer with copies of the folders in C:/EponaU
from the OLD computer.
5) Step by step how to do this:
5.1) On both Old and New computers, make sure you exit Metron-U
before doing the following.
5.2) On the NEW computer, go to C:/EponaU and delete all the folders
in there. They have names like "CutDate", "CutExam",
"DataBase", etc. There are 10 or so of these folders.
Make sure you are doing this on the NEW computer -- if you do this
on your OLD computer, you will be deleting all of your images and
data!!!
5.3) On your old computer, make copies of all the folders under
C:/EponaU onto a CD, or onto a ZIP disk, or accross your network.
This step is up to you, depending on what you have available to
transfer the files from one computer to another.
5.4) At your NEW computer, move these copied folders into C:/EponaU.
5.5) Try starting Metron-U on the new computer. It will be in
Trial Mode, but you will see that all your data is there.
5.6) There is one more IMPORTANT thing! If you used a read-only
CD to transfer the files, then you have to tell Windows that these
files should not be "Read Only" files. So go to C: and
right-click on the EponaU folder (on the New computer) and on the
pop-up list, choose "Properties". Near the bottom of the
panel, it will say "Attributes" and you will see the "Read
Only" may be indicated. Turn that OFF so they are NOT Read-Only,
and click OK or Apply. You may be asked if you wish to apply that
to all "sub-folders and files" and you should say Yes.
This way it will make all folders under C:/EponaU able to be written
and read. Metron-U needs to be able to write files to operate properly.
6) Now, get an unlock-code for the new Metron-U. To do this, start
it up, then go to "Register" in the top-bar, choose "Unlock"
and tell EponaTech the "Registration Number" that is shown
there. From that, EponaTech will compute an Unlock Code which will
work on that computer.
7) Note that this procedure left everything on your old computer
also. If you don't want to use that computer anymore, you could
un-install Metron-U from it now. Just make sure everything is up
and running on the new computer before doing that.
8) Note that moving a database to a new copy of Metron-U (as above)
is pretty simple. It is more complicated if you have two databases
that you need to "merge" together into one. So, unless
you have a good reason to do so, we recommend you keep all your
cases on one computer in one database.
9) If, on your new computer, you see your data but Metron-U is
acting weird and not remembering new things you enter into it, then
you probably didn't do step number 5.6 above.
