How Accurate is Metron?
Can Metron be used on both Shod and Unshod Horses?
Yes. Of the five image types that Metron-PX supports, only one, the
Solar Photo, is adversely affected by the presence of a shoe. For
the Solar Photo, it would be best taken when the farrier visits and
the shoe is off and the foot has been trimmed. In fact, Metron could
be used on a solar photo of a shod horse, but a few of the parameters
would have to be interpreted slightly differently. The other four
image types supported by Metron can be taken with shoes on with no
problems.
Can I Get More Information on Metron?
We have an extensive (more than 150 slides!) 'Slide Show' which
you can look at here.
Or...
If you wish, you can read the Metron User Manual which is the same
manual which comes with the product. By reading through this document,
you'll get a pretty good idea of many of the features of Metron.

E-mail in Metron
The e-mail feature in Metron will not work with all e-mail programs
or with all ISPs. In technical terms, you must have a MAPI-compliant
e-mail application on the same computer as Metron in order for the
e-mail feature to work. If you use Outlook Express, Outlook, Netscape
Mail, or Eudora for your e-mail, then Metron will work fine. Other
MAPI-compliant e-mail programs should work as well. Currently it will
not work with services like AOL, Juno, nor with web-based e-mail
like Hotmail. Because some of these e-mail services are quite popular
(particularly AOL) we are working on a solution so that e-mail in
Metron will work with some or all of them.
How can I tell if there is a newer version of Metron available?
You can check which version of Metron you currently have by starting
up the program, and clicking on the "About" item in the
top bar. This will bring up a panel giving some general information,
including the "Version #" for your copy of Metron. Next,
you can go to our Download
page and on that page you will see the currently available version
number. If the current version is higher than your version, then
you might want to upgrade to get the latest improvements.
You can read about the changes from version to version to find
out exactly what's different in each one here.
Can I upgrade to the latest version of Metron for Free?
As long as the first (main) version number is the same as the version
that you have, you can upgrade for free. For example, if you have
version 3.0 and you see that now version 3.03 is available, you
can upgrade for free. However, if you have version 3.X and you wish
to upgrade to version 4.X, there will be a small upgrade fee. If
you are an owner of Metron 1.X, and wish to upgrade (free) to the
latest supported version prior to 2.0, you can download from here.
Likewise, if you have version 2.X and wish to upgrade to the latest
series 2.X version prior to 3.0, you can download it here.
Likewise, if you have version 3.X and wish to upgrade to the latest
series 3.X version prior to 4.0, you can download it here.
How Do I Upgrade to get the latest version of Metron?
Follow these steps. Note there is no need to first "un-install"
your previous copy of Metron.
- Download Metron from the website ( from our Download
page ) This will result in a file called epona4.exe on your
system ( note: if you still have an epona4.exe file from a previous
download, you might want to delete it first, to avoid confusion).
- Once you have epona4.exe, when you double-click it, it starts
the installation process. When it asks where to
install Metron, you should put it in the same place
where you installed last time. Unless you are a computer expert
and know exactly what yo uare doing, just say yes to the default
location of C:/Epona -- otherwise, the install may not work. The
new Metron will overwrite the old Metron, which
is fine.
- This "overwriting" will not delete any
files you have added to the system. For example, if you have imported
images and marked them up, etc. they will still be there after
the upgrade.
When its finished with the install, start up Metron, and go to the
"About" panel. It should now indicate that you have the
newer (higher) version number.
Can I upgrade to a newer version if I haven't purchased and
am still in Trial Mode?
Yes. Whether you've purchased or not, you can upgrade. Upgrading will
never change your Trial Mode or Purchased status (except if you are
upgrading to a new 'major' release for which there has been a price
increase -- e.g. if you have version 3.X and you upgrade to 4.X you
will find yourself back in trial mode).
Can I keep my older version of Metron and also
install the newer version?
You could, but its not recommended. The main problem is that all
of the work you've entered into Metron will be accessible only when
using the older version which created it, and the new version will
not be able to get at those files. That's why we suggest just overwriting
the old version of Metron -- then the new version sits in the right
place so it can grab all your existing files. If, for some reason,
you really want to have two versions of Metron on your PC, send
a request to support@eponatech.com
and we'll tell you how to copy your files from the former location
to the new location so you can access them from both versions of
Metron. However, in any case, if you enter files into your newer
version, you will not be able to view them in your older version.
Things can quickly get confusing, and that's why we don't recommend
having more than one version of Metron on your computer.
I don't want to use a Credit Card to purchase
Metron. Can I pay by check?

How does "Free Mark-Up" work? I'm having trouble
Moving and Deleting Items...
Here are the basics: Except for "Measure Curve Length"
and "Measure Area", the other items work in the following
way: For example, if you click on "Angle Measure", you'll
see a prompt telling you to pick 3 points in the image, and a little
diagram showing how those 3 points relate to the angle you will
measure. As soon as you've picked 3 points on the image, the angle-measure
will appear. Once the item is added to the image, you move it by
pick-hold-down-and-drag with the mouse -- the trick is that you
move these objects by their "control points" which are
usually the endpoints. For the Angle-Measurer there are 3 control
points -- you have to drag each one separately. One exception to
this is the Circle-Radius-Measurer -- it can be dragged also by
its center point. Note that each item you add is auto-assigned a
name, but you can edit its name, as well as details of color, font,
etc by using the selections in the center of the panel. If you're
not sure which item you are editing, just pick a control point of
the item you wish to edit -- this will select it as the "current
note" and then you can edit its details.
The "Measure Curve Length" and "Measure Area"
tools operate a little differently since they can be composed of
any number of points: when you first create them, you'll see some
extra buttons appear on the panel which allow you to switch between
"Add Points", "Delete Points", or "Move
Single Point". You'll see the shape of the cursor change when
in Add or Delete mode, to remind you that you are in that mode.
There is also a button (labeled "Other End") which reverses
the sense of the curve you are picking so you can add points to
the other end of the curve. If you are adding to or deleting from
one of these objects, and you want to get back to picking and editing
another object, switch the selector back to "Move Single Point"
and then you can pick anything on the screen.
There is also a concept of the "current object under edit"
-- whichever object you last pick has this status, and any text
associated with it is displayed in the text window within the Free
Mark-Up panel. Then, the current object can be deleted by clicking
the button in the lower left-hand corner of the panel. So, to delete
any object, just pick one of its control points (to make it the
"current object") and then hit the delete button.
How can I get a Photo-Quality Print of a Marked-Up Metron
Image?
We use Shutterfly, and recommend them to our users. You can upload
digital images to the Shutterfly site and then have them printed
and mailed to you or mailed to your colleague or client. Its very
handy. You can also send Shutterfly rolls of conventional film for
development, and then they will be posted to the Shutterfly website.
They develop the film for free. Use this link to check out Shutterfly:
